Their updated guidelines mean that more families now qualify for the School Readiness program, which helps make childcare more affordable!

Why Early Childhood Education Matters
The early years of a child’s life are incredibly important. Did you know that during this time the brain develops faster than at any other stage?
Research consistently shows that children who attend high quality early childhood programsdo better later in life. They tend to perform better in school, develop stronger social skills, and are more likely to graduate high school and attend college. What Is the School Readiness Program?
The School Readiness program helps eligible families pay for childcare so parents can work or attend school while their children are in a safe, nurturing and educational learning environment.
The program is administered locally by the Early Learning Coalition of Brevard County. School Readiness funding can help cover the cost of childcare for children from infancy through age twelve depending on eligibility.
Programs like School Readiness are designed to support both children and families. Children benefit from nurturing learning environments that prepare them for kindergarten, while parents gain the stability of reliable childcare so they can work or continue their education.
How to Apply for School Readiness in Brevard County
Applying is easier than many parents expect. The process begins online through the Florida Early Learning Family Portal.
First, visit the Family Portal and create an account using your email address. Once you are logged in you can begin the School Readiness application.
You will be asked to provide information about your household, including family size, employment or school status, and income. The system will also ask you to upload documents such as pay stubs or proof of employment or school enrollment.
After completing the application you will submit it electronically. The Early Learning Coalition reviews the application and notifies families about eligibility and next steps. If approved, families can choose a participating childcare provider in Brevard County.

School Readiness and VPK at The Melbourne Preschool
At The Melbourne Preschool, we proudly accept School Readiness vouchers as well as VPK vouchers. VPK, or Voluntary Prekindergarten, is Florida’s free preschool program for four year olds that helps children build early literacy and school readiness skills before kindergarten.
